Once Upon a Blog
Once Upon a Blog... there was a girl who finally started to write one. I have been meaning to blog about books (my raisin d' etre) for so long but have never got around to doing so until I came across the challenge set by Carl (Stainless Steel Droppings) and it inspired to to get reading and get writing. I would link to the challenge but not sure how to so any comments telling me how would be much appreciated!
The R.I.P. (Readers Imbibing Peril) challenge is in its third year and runs from September 1st until October 31st. I have opted for the Peril the first challenge: Read Four books of any length, from any subgenre of scary stories that you choose. The sub-genres are:
Mystery
Suspense
Thriller
Dark Fantasy
Gothic
Horror
Supernatural
Carl has asked us to create a pool of potential books which we will choose our scary reads from; I find this to be a good idea as I am prone to becoming distracted and changing my mind about what to read next and already my four choices have been subject to change!
My pool of scary reads:
The Graveyard Book, Neil Gaiman (this isn't released in the UK until the last day of the challenge so it may very well be a last minute challenge read or an additional one as cannot be excluded; besides, it will make for a lovely Hallowe'en night).
The Historian, Elizabeth Kostova
The Shadow of the Wind, Carlos Ruiz Zafon
The Fall of the House of Usher and Other Writings, Edgar Allan Poe
The Woman in White, Wilkie Collins
Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte
Gothic Tales, Elizabeth Gaskell, (primarily for the novella, Lois the Witch)
The Host, Stephenie Meyer
The Victorian Chaise-longue, Marghanita Lanski)
The Thirteenth Tale, Diane Setterfield
Out, Nastuo Kirino
The Little Black Book of Stories, A.S. Byatt
I look forward to this challenge; especially as we come into the throes of Autumn and I am sitting in a new flat, in a new city, in a new life curled up with good books. I shall start my first book of the challenge, The Thirteenth Tale, later this week - wish me luck and happy reading!

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful pool of books! Wow! I would be in heaven swimming in that pool of books. I suspect many of us are going to be diving in to The Graveyard Book the second it comes out. I cannot wait.
I am so glad you are joining in and kudos to you for creating a blog. It looks great. I look forward to reading your reviews. I am excited that you chose to join in and are making this challenge a part of the other exciting things that seem to be going on in your life. I hope this autumn is a real treat for you.
Excellent list of books for the challenge!
Nice to meet another UK blogger, and a new blogger at that!
I'm being a bit naughty and ordering The Graveyard Book from the US so I can get it earlier...
The Thirteenth Tale is a delicious read, and I also very much enjoyed The Historian.
Look forward to your review posts!

I loved The Thirteen Tale!.. and have the Historian on my list too!
I will look forward to your review of the Woman in White (if you read it)...it's a book I've thought about from time to time but not purchased..yet
That's awesome that you just started a book blog- congratulations! I just started mine a couple of months ago, and it's amazing how quickly they grow. Getting involved in the book blogger community through challenges, contests, etc. has absolutely been the best part for me. Have fun!
Thank you for your comments, eveyone!
I have been away since last week, finding a flat, and whilst I was I read (and fervently enjoyed The Thirteenth Tale - blog to follow shortly). I have now moved onto The Victorian Chaise-longue...
hmmm, quixotical, I may have to do what you're doing with The Graveyard Book...!
As a long-overdue follow-up, I actually did complete this challenge but we were moving flat (again) and couldn't post; now we're all settled and I have some renewed discipline, I am re-starting it. I read The Thirteenth Tale, The Woman in White, The Victorian Chaise-longue and The Little Black Book of Stories as well as reading The Graveyard Book a few days later.
